Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at tedxhandleyblvdwomen@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Through short, powerful talks, TED brings together leading thinkers and doers from around the world to inspire curiosity, imagination, reason, and action.

TEDx is a grassroots initiative that brings the spirit of TED to local communities. These events are organized independently, under a free license granted by TED, and follow TED’s curation guidelines. TEDx HandleyBlvd Women is part of this global network, creating a platform for voices, perspectives, and ideas that matter.

A TEDx talk is not a lecture, a motivational speech, or a sales pitch. It’s a carefully curated idea — well-researched, rooted in truth and reason, and shared in a way that sparks curiosity and imagination. Talks are short, focused, and designed to inspire conversation, connection, and action.

Our event follows TED’s core values:

  • Curiosity: Every big idea starts with a question.
  • Reason: We ground talks in evidence, accuracy, and truth.
  • Imagination: We celebrate creativity, vision, and innovation.
  • Inclusion: Ideas are for everyone — no borders, no barriers.
  • Generosity: Empowering others is at the heart of what we do.
  • Debate: Respectful conversations help ideas grow stronger.
  • Impact: Ideas are only powerful if they inspire action.

Speakers are asked to share ideas on topics where they have proven expertise, and all talks are reviewed for accuracy. We encourage the use of citations, sources, and evidence-based claims. If a claim is later discredited, TED seeks to provide clear updates.

Yes — but with care. TEDx is a space for respectful dialogue and nuanced conversation. Some talks may address challenging or divisive topics. Our goal is not to promote a single viewpoint, but to foster understanding, bridge divides, and model respectful engagement.

Bigotry and hate speech have no place on our stage.

No. TEDx provides a platform for diverse voices, but that doesn’t mean TED or TEDx universally endorses all views held by individual speakers. People are multi-faceted, and talks are reviewed to ensure accuracy while still encouraging fresh perspectives.

That’s okay — in fact, it’s encouraged! TEDx is about sparking curiosity and conversation. Not everyone will agree with every talk. We welcome respectful debate and provide opportunities for dialogue during and after the event.

We’re looking for bold, well-formed ideas that inspire action and imagination. If you have an idea worth spreading, apply to be a speaker here:

Our mission is to discover and spread ideas that spark imagination, embrace possibility, and catalyze impact. We believe in the power of ideas to create a better world — and in bringing people together across divides to share, listen, and learn.
